Abandoned Cart Emails That Actually Work

And if you’ve ever added something to your Amazon cart, got distracted, and never checked out… you're not alone. In fact, studies show that nearly 70% of all online carts are abandoned before a purchase is completed.

But here’s the real talk:

👉 That doesn’t mean the sale is dead.

It means you need to follow up like a boss.

Because the fortune is in the follow-up, and I’m here to show you how to get that fortune rolling your way.

In this post, you’ll learn:

  • What abandoned cart sequences are (and why they matter)

  • How to set them up in tools like Go High Level or Social Connector

What Is an Abandoned Cart Sequence?

Abandoned cart automation is the secret weapon of every smart digital CEO.

It’s a series of automated messages—usually email or SMS—sent to someone who adds a product to their cart but doesn’t complete the purchase.

That person was already interested.
They already said, “Hey, I want this.”
They just didn’t say “yes” yet.

And that’s where your follow-up does the heavy lifting.

Why Do People Abandon Carts?

Here’s the thing: most people don’t bail because they hate your product.

They just got distracted.

🍼 A baby cried.
📦 Amazon delivered.
📱 Another tab stole their attention.
💸 They were on the fence about price or timing.

Your job isn’t to beg.

It’s to remind them, reduce the friction, and nudge them over the finish line.

And it works.

Abandoned cart emails can recover 20% to 30% of lost sales, with minimal extra effort once you have it set up.

Tools to Set Up Abandoned Cart Automations

Depending on what platform you sell your digital products on, here are your best options:

Go High Level (GHL) – My Favorite

I use GHL to build my entire checkout and email follow-up system. It allows me to trigger automations the moment someone enters their info on my two-step order form (more on that in a sec).

Social Connector

Perfect for email sequences and social DM follow-ups. I have full templates built into here and it works well with ManyChat too.

⚠️ Stan Store (Limited Cart Visibility)

If you use Stan, you won’t know if someone visited but didn’t check out, unless they enter their name and email. That means it’s trickier to track abandoned carts, unless you do custom coding or Zapier integrations.

✅ Other Options: Shopify, ConvertKit, Flodesk, ThriveCart

Many platforms support cart recovery emails natively. Check your sales tool’s documentation or integrate with Zapier to bridge the gap.

How I Trigger Abandoned Cart Emails

In Go High Level, here’s how I do it:

  1. Two-Step Order Form:
    Step 1: Name & Email
    Step 2: Price + Checkout

If someone fills out step one but doesn’t purchase in step two…
🚨 BAM. They’re tagged as an abandoned cart, and the follow-up begins.

My 3-Email Abandoned Cart Sequence (With Sass)

Let me break down the formula I use:

Email #1: “You Forgot Something”

Timing: 30 minutes to 1 hour later
Tone: Friendly, casual, no pressure
CTA: Easy link to finish checkout
Bonus: I include a $10 off coupon here!

“Looks like you left the Launch Secrets course hanging out in your cart. That’s like leaving your best pair of heels at the store. Serious FOMO potential here…”

Email #2: “Don’t Let This Deal Walk Away”

Timing: 24 hours later
Tone: More urgency, mention bonus or discount
CTA: Same link
Bonus: Last chance to use discount

“This is your last chance to grab your discount! We’d hate for you to miss out on the bonuses + limited-time pricing…”

Email #3: “Still Thinking About It?”

Timing: 48–72 hours after abandonment
Tone: Empathetic, reassurance
CTA: Emphasize transformation or results
No Discount Mention

“Just popping in one last time. We know taking action can be scary—but this course is the step-by-step you’ve been waiting for.”

My Favorite Abandoned Cart Tips

✅ Keep the emails short + skimmable

✅ Use fun subject lines that match your brand voice

✅ Always include ONE clear CTA

✅ If you offer a discount, make it limited

✅ Reiterate VALUE > PRICE

You’re not annoying. You’re helping someone take action on something they already wanted. Don’t forget that.

Final Thoughts: Follow-Up Is Where the Fortune Lives

Most people stop selling too soon. But the truth is, most sales happen in the follow-up.

Abandoned cart sequences aren’t pushy—they’re smart.

They give your buyer one last chance to say yes.

They show you care.

They turn cold feet into confident action.

So don’t let abandoned carts haunt your business.
Recover them like a pro, and watch your revenue rise—on autopilot.
